DESCRIPTION:In NYC\, this August 29th and 30th\, Berg Studios is excited to announce a 2-day On-Camera Scene Study and Audition Intensive with Gregory Berger (Berg)\, a former faculty member of The Yale School of Drama\, and private on-set coach to Lupita Nyong’o (Oscar Winner)\, Riz Ahmed (Oscar Winner)\, Winston Duke\, Aziz Ansari\, and many others. \nA question we often hear is “Why do I feel such freedom on stage\, but then lose that freedom when I get in front of a camera?” This workshop is designed to answer that very question! \nIn this two-day intensive\, Berg brings the same technique and insight he developed for his on-camera acting class at the Yale School of Drama. \nThe workshop begins with the first day of on-camera scene study\, followed by a day focused on translating that work into the audition process. It uniquely bridges the freedom and imagination of stage work with the rigor and constraints of self-tapes and live auditions—eliminating the divide between stage and screen. \nFor the first day\, actors will be assigned a film or television scene and a scene partner\, working on camera every day with full coverage (wide\, medium\, and close-up shots) as Berg coaches each rehearsal. \n\nDay 1: On-camera scene work with your partner.\nDay 2: You will bring in audition material and work on-camera with Berg.\n\nThis workshop challenges actors to expand their imagination and access their boldest\, most spontaneous\, and irreverent selves. The actors are pushed beyond safe or predictable choices toward creating fearless\, original\, and compelling auditions.

SUMMARY:Sunday Introductory Scene Study
DESCRIPTION:This introductory class explores the actor’s process from script analysis to role creation—using imagination to illuminate words written by someone else\, which I believe is at the heart of what we do as actors. \nI believe deeply in both technique and instinct\, in rigorous training as well as creativity and play. My goal is to help each student discover and strengthen their own unique responsiveness as an artist\, developing a deeper awareness of what they personally need to meet a challenge and do their best work. \nActing begins with imagination\, connection\, and presence—especially in relationship to your scene partner(s). Every actor works differently: one student may connect most strongly through visual imagery\, while another may unlock a scene through breathwork\, movement\, or a kinesthetic approach. Part of the work is building a rich toolbox of techniques and learning when and how to use them. \nI primarily work with scenes from plays because they offer actors a strong sense of narrative arc and are written specifically to serve the actor’s craft. This foundation also prepares students for the continuity and storytelling demands of filmed and edited work. \n  \n\n					This Introductory class is an ongoing monthly subscription. DESCRIPTION:This June\, we are thrilled to welcome back former London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) instructor James Kemp for beginner/advanced workshops of Yat Malmgren movement psychology! \nAt the heart of the work is the concept that we think with our bodies. Our bodies are revelatory of our inner workings\, our psyche\, thoughts\, and feelings. Therefore\, if we could learn to harness and manifest our inner sensations and express them through our bodies\, we would be able to share every inner desire\, want\, thought\, or emotion with a watching audience. And in turn that audience would be able to ‘read’ our thoughts\, and character\, and be thoroughly engaged in our dramatic lives. \nBy the end of the presentation\, you will be looking at the world through new eyes\, being able to ‘read’ the movements of those around you for meaning and to create physically expressive characterizations that both excite the imagination and serve the writers’ intentions.

DESCRIPTION:The study of the Alexander Technique is required at the finest drama conservatories around the world\, including the Yale School of Drama\, The Juilliard School\, ACT\, the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art\, and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. \nThe Alexander technique is a gentle approach that aims to re-educate the mind and the body through a series of movements so the body uses muscles more efficiently. Actors trained in the Alexander Technique consistently feel more confident and free — physically\, vocally\, and creatively — to do their best work. The physical and imaginative freedom that can be discovered through the Alexander work can be a vital part of the actor’s craft. \nAll communication starts with the body. It is the point of origin for the voice\, emotional life\, and physical activity. It also creates and communicates meaning to the audience – our physical actions and responses are interpreted by the onlooker –and performers need to be in charge of this process. \nIn this workshop\, actors develop an awareness of their psychophysical habits that cause tension and interfere with performance. By using principles of the Alexander Technique you will deepen the connections between your body\, breath\, and voice. The goal is to give you a clear understanding of what to expect and how each class builds on the next. \nDuring the audit\, Berg will also share insight into today’s constantly evolving audition landscape\, offering practical examples of what it takes to stand out and create work that feels specific and memorable. \nWe’ll watch clips from well-known film and television projects Berg has coached on set\, so you can see firsthand how the work translates into bold\, imaginative choices on screen. \nBy the end of the class\, you’ll have a much clearer sense of the training\, the environment\, and whether it feels like the right fit for you. Her teaching is rooted in the classical traditions of Konstantin Stanislavski and Michael Chekhov. “At the heart of my teaching is the belief that imagination is the primary creative force in performance.
