SUMMARY:Voice and Speech with Tessa Auberjonois
DESCRIPTION:This voice and speech training course helps actors release tension\, develop control over breath and articulation\, and use their voice with freedom and clarity. Through consistent practice and progressive exercises\, students learn vocal mechanics\, build a reliable warm-up routine\, and bring text to life with expressive\, authentic delivery. \nFocuses on releasing habitual tension to free the actor’s natural voice\nDevelops reliable breathing\, vocal\, and articulation techniques through consistent practice\nBuilds awareness of how breath\, voice\, and speech work together for expressive communication\nStrengthens clarity\, versatility\, and emotional range in vocal performance\nTeaches a comprehensive voice and speech warm-up routine\nExplores mechanics of vocal production through active exercises\nGuides students in bringing text to life vocally and connecting imagination to language\nEncourages patience\, repetition\, and discipline—similar to training a musical instrument or physical skill \nThe purpose of vocal training—an essential component of conservatory acting programs worldwide—is to release the actor’s habitual patterns of tension. When these tensions are freed\, the vocal instrument can fully express character through the actor’s imagination\, engaging the listener with language written by another yet spoken as our own. Without the ability to fully access and use the voice\, an actor cannot consistently meet the dynamic and creative demands of the industry. \nVoice and speech training is a technique that requires time to learn and integrate. Our everyday habits of breathing and speaking are deeply ingrained and highly sensitive to factors such as nerves and personal inhibitions. \nWith consistent practice\, vocal technique develops awareness and allows actors to use breath\, voice\, and articulation with reliability and freedom. Instead of being limited by habitual vocal patterns\, actors gain the ability to communicate a wide range of character choices with clarity and versatility. \nThis process is similar to building strength at the gym or learning to play a musical instrument—it requires patience\, repetition\, and discipline before the results can be fully realized and applied. Each session builds upon the last\, supporting students as they integrate technique into increasingly specific and expressive uses of voice\, body\, and speech. \nIn this course\, students will learn a comprehensive voice and speech warm-up\, develop a strong understanding of the mechanics of vocal production through active exercises\, and explore how to bring text to life vocally.

SUMMARY:Online Acting Technique: 3 Weeks Intensive
DESCRIPTION:Led by Gregory Berger (Berg) and faculty\, this 3-week intensive introduces the core approach used throughout Berg Studios. \nIt builds a strong technical foundation while connecting that work to the demands of film and television. Actors train in script analysis\, language\, imagery\, and performance\, learning to translate technique into work that feels active\, embodied\, and alive.\nThe process pushes actors out of their heads and into their bodies—integrating movement\, rhythm\, and creative exploration while still honoring the text—so that\, over time\, their work becomes imaginative\, dynamic\, and fully their own. \nClass 1: Technique\nProvides a fundamental understanding of the Berg Studios approach\, introducing familiar acting vocabulary (like objectives and actions) through their distinct perspective. Rather than stopping at intellectual understanding\, it moves technique into the body—where spontaneous and imaginative behavior lives—guiding you toward discovering your own process and a technique that’s truly your own. \nClass 2: Script Analysis\nSystematically breaks down a play or screenplay to understand the writer’s intent\, themes\, and structure. It moves beyond purely academic analysis to uncover what lives beneath the words\, focusing on illuminating the script rather than merely illustrating it\, and transforming textual information into compelling\, imaginative behavior. \nClass 3: Sense Stress\nA deep exploration of a script’s language for imagery\, understanding\, and creativity. Includes practical demonstrations of how to mark up your script to create a personal “road map” through the language\, a dive into different forms of speech every actor should know\, and group exercises to fully engage with the words\, sounds\, and imagery of the script. \nClasses 4–5: Scene Study with Gregory Berger\nIntegrates in-person scene study techniques with on-camera work\, using Zoom as a performance “frame.” Trains foundational tools—language\, gesture\, beat work\, and script analysis—and techniques for turning text into clear\, purposeful action. Emphasizes balancing spontaneity with structure\, developing imaginative and fully realized characters\, and building confidence and authenticity for film and TV settings\, all grounded in strong technique and personal choices. \nClass 6: On-Camera Audition Technique\nHelps actors gain confidence and authenticity on film and TV sets by connecting craft to the camera through strong technique and imaginative choices\, using an audition structure. Offers practical\, affordable training that builds skill\, experience\, and truthfulness in on-screen performance and auditions—emphasizing honest\, imaginative choices over tricks or shortcuts\, and grounding everything in the authentic use of self.

SUMMARY:Alexander Technique with Kristof Konrad
DESCRIPTION:The study of the Alexander Technique is required at the finest drama conservatories around the world\, including the Yale School of Drama\, The Juilliard School\, ACT\, the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art\, and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. \nThe Alexander technique is a gentle approach that aims to re-educate the mind and the body through a series of movements so the body uses muscles more efficiently. Actors trained in the Alexander Technique consistently feel more confident and free — physically\, vocally\, and creatively — to do their best work. The physical and imaginative freedom that can be discovered through the Alexander work can be a vital part of the actor’s craft. \nAll communication starts with the body. It is the point of origin for the voice\, emotional life\, and physical activity. It also creates and communicates meaning to the audience – our physical actions and responses are interpreted by the onlooker –and performers need to be in charge of this process. \nIn this workshop\, actors develop an awareness of their psychophysical habits that cause tension and interfere with performance. By using principles of the Alexander Technique you will deepen the connections between your body\, breath\, and voice. Movement inspires this dynamic relationship by integrating all the parts of the actor’s instrument. \nCOURSE CONTENT: \n\nConnecting to the body through awareness with the Alexander Technique (getting out of your head)\nFreeing impulse and response patterns\nFinding the breath and rhythm of the character\nRecognizing the force of habit\nImproving breath coordination and vocal quality\nImproving our movement by learning to organize body relationships\nUnderstanding Means and Ends\nMaking clear choices of intention\nInfusing direction in our thinking and movement\nApplying the Alexander Technique to monologues\, sonnets\, songs\, and scenes\nLearning to develop characters physically (if I believe your body\, I’ll believe your character

SUMMARY:The Actor's Imagination on Film: LA On-Camera Scene Study and Audition Intensive with Berg
DESCRIPTION:On October 31st and November 1st\, Berg Studios is excited to announce a 2-day On-Camera Scene Study and Audition Intensive with Gregory Berger (Berg)\, a former faculty member of The Yale School of Drama and private on-set coach to Lupita Nyong’o (Oscar Winner)\, Riz Ahmed (Oscar Winner)\, Winston Duke\, Aziz Ansari\, and many others. \nA question we often hear is “Why do I feel such freedom on stage\, but then lose that freedom when I get in front of a camera?” This workshop answers that very question! \nIn this two-day intensive\, Berg brings the same technique and insight he developed for his on-camera acting class at the Yale School of Drama. \nThe workshop begins with the first day of on-camera scene study\, followed by a day focused on translating that work into the audition process. It uniquely bridges the freedom and imagination of stage work with the rigor and constraints of self-tapes and live auditions—eliminating the divide between stage and screen. \nFor the first day\, actors will be assigned a film or television scene and a scene partner\, working on camera every day with full coverage (wide\, medium\, and close-up shots) as Berg coaches each rehearsal. \n\nDay 1: On-camera scene work with your partner.\nDay 2: You will bring in audition material and work on-camera with Berg.\n\nThis workshop challenges actors to expand their imagination and access their boldest\, most spontaneous\, and irreverent selves. The actors are pushed beyond safe or predictable choices toward creating fearless\, original\, and compelling auditions.

SUMMARY:The Actors Reset: A Free Online Masterclass with Gregory Berger
DESCRIPTION:Every actor—whether brand new or decades into the work—can hit the same wall. The spontaneous\, imaginative spark that first made acting exciting can start to feel harder to access. You may find yourself overthinking\, repeating familiar choices\, losing connection with your scene partner\, or simply trying too hard to “get it right.”\nIn The Actor’s Reset\, Berg draws on decades of teaching and his work coaching actors on set to help you reconnect with the freedom\, imagination\, and individuality that make your work compelling. Rather than giving you more rules to follow\, he offers practical tools designed to get you moving\, responding\, and creating again. \nWhat You’ll Learn: \n\nHow to recognize when your work has become generic\, predictable\, or overly controlled\nHow to get out of your head and stop chasing the “right” result\nHow to reconnect with spontaneity\, imagination\, and play\nHow to stay more present and responsive with your fellow actors\nHow to make choices that feel specific\, bold\, provocative\, and personal\nPractical exercises you can use whenever your work starts to feel stuck or mechanical\nHow Berg helps actors uncover what is authentically and unmistakably their own\nHow these ideas translate to professional film work\, with examples from clips from Academy Award-winning films Berg has worked on\, including Sound of Metal\, Us\, and Black Panther\n\nThrough practical exercises\, discussion\, and selected film clips\, you’ll see how Berg approaches creative blocks and helps actors move toward work that feels more alive\, connected\, and original. The goal is not to add more technique for technique’s sake\, but to give you tools you can return to whenever you need to reset and reconnect with the actor you want to be. \nPlus\, stay with us for the final 30 minutes for a special Berg Studios announcement. We’ll be sharing what’s next for our online training and New York community—including new ways to continue working with Berg on an ongoing basis.

SUMMARY:Improv Workshop with Colin McGurk
DESCRIPTION:Improv training sharpens the core instincts that make any actor better — genuine listening and presence\, since there’s no script to hide behind; generosity and collaboration\, through the “yes\, and” principle of building on a scene partner’s choices rather than blocking them; spontaneity and confidence\, from learning to trust impulses and commit without overthinking; and adaptability\, since improv constantly demands real-time problem-solving when something unexpected happens. It also loosens self-consciousness by making failure and vulnerability a normal\, low-stakes part of the process\, which ultimately makes scripted performances feel more alive\, present\, and truthful rather than rehearsed. \nJoin Colin McGurk\, an in-house performer at The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in Los Angeles since 2017\, in this fun and impactful workshop. Over four classes\, you will learn the fundamentals of Improv\, including: \nClass 1. Starting From Today – Where are you at emotionally today? How does that align or misalign with your character? Learn to let go of your idea of how things should be and to accept how they are in the moment. \nClass2. Listening with the Body – using our instrument to send and receive information to/from our scene partners. Our bodies are tuned to interpret more than just the words we are hearing if we trust our intuition. \nClass 3. Memories/histories/secrets – improvising the lives of the characters outside the given text. Creating shared experiences that we can recall outside of our imagination. \nClass 4. Truth in comedy\, comedy in drama – play the reality of the comedy\, not the joke. Play the humor in the drama\, not the tragedy.

SUMMARY:Tuesday Introductory Scene Study
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\n\nShawna Pardo’s Introductory class invites actors into a deeply embodied practice—one that asks them to move\, to radiate\, and to experience the imagination as a living force. The work is both physically engaging and psychologically rich\, guiding actors to discover how inner life and expression arise through the body. Her teaching is rooted in the classical traditions of Konstantin Stanislavski and Michael Chekhov. “At the heart of my teaching is the belief that imagination is the primary creative force in performance. Mind\, body\, and feeling are inseparable. In class\, we create the conditions for characters to unfold instinctively through physical action\, psychological awareness\, and imaginative freedom. \n  \n\n This Introductory class is an ongoing monthly subscription. Enrollment is open to students who have completed or are currently enrolled in our Foundation Series\, or who have received approval through the Berg Studios office. \nBy purchasing this ticket\, you acknowledge and agree that you are enrolling in an automatic recurring monthly subscription.\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Sunday Introductory Scene Study
DESCRIPTION:This introductory class explores the actor’s process from script analysis to role creation—using imagination to illuminate words written by someone else\, which I believe is at the heart of what we do as actors. \nI believe deeply in both technique and instinct\, in rigorous training as well as creativity and play. My goal is to help each student discover and strengthen their own unique responsiveness as an artist\, developing a deeper awareness of what they personally need to meet a challenge and do their best work. \nActing begins with imagination\, connection\, and presence—especially in relationship to your scene partner(s). Every actor works differently: one student may connect most strongly through visual imagery\, while another may unlock a scene through breathwork\, movement\, or a kinesthetic approach. Part of the work is building a rich toolbox of techniques and learning when and how to use them. \nI primarily work with scenes from plays because they offer actors a strong sense of narrative arc and are written specifically to serve the actor’s craft. This foundation also prepares students for the continuity and storytelling demands of filmed and edited work. \n  \n\n This Introductory class is an ongoing monthly subscription. Enrollment is open to students who have completed or are currently enrolled in our Foundation Series\, or who have received approval through the Berg Studios office. \nBy purchasing this ticket\, you acknowledge and agree that you are enrolling in an automatic recurring monthly subscription.

SUMMARY:Foundation Acting Classes (October Session)
DESCRIPTION:The Foundation Series is the DNA of Berg Studios.\nThis four-class series is designed to give you a strong foundation in the techniques our instructors studied at Yale and Juilliard—and have continued to develop ever since. This series is a prerequisite for training with Gregory Berger \nThe four classes of the series are: \nTechnique: This class provides a fundamental understanding of our approach to the work\, introducing familiar acting vocabulary through our distinct perspective on essentials like objectives and actions. Rather than stopping at intellectual understanding\, it moves technique into the body\, where spontaneous and imaginative behavior lives. Through this process\, you’ll be guided toward discovering your own process and developing a technique that is truly your own. \n\nProvides a fundamental understanding of our approach to the work\nIntroduces familiar acting vocabulary through our distinct perspective on essentials like objectives and actions\nMoves technique beyond intellectual understanding and into the body\, where spontaneous and imaginative behavior lives\nGuides you toward discovering your own process and developing a technique that is truly your own.\n\nScript Analysis: This class systematically breaks down a play or screenplay to understand the writer’s intent\, themes\, and structure — moving beyond purely academic analysis to uncover what lives beneath the words. The focus is on illuminating the script rather than merely illustrating it\, transforming textual information into compelling\, imaginative behavior. \n\nSystematically breaks down a play or screenplay to understand the writer’s intent\, themes\, and structure\nMoves beyond purely academic analysis to uncover what lives beneath the words\nFocuses on illuminating the script rather than merely illustrating it\nTransforms textual information into compelling\, imaginative behavior.\n\nSense Stress: This session offers a deep exploration of the language of a script\, focusing on imagery\, understanding\, and creativity. SUMMARY:New York City On-Camera Scene Study and Audition Intensive with Gregory Berger (Berg)
DESCRIPTION:In NYC\, this December 5th and 6th\, Berg Studios is excited to announce a 2-day On-Camera Scene Study and Audition Intensive with Gregory Berger (Berg)\, a former faculty member of The Yale School of Drama\, and private on-set coach to Lupita Nyong’o (Oscar Winner)\, Riz Ahmed (Oscar Winner)\, Winston Duke\, Aziz Ansari\, and many others. \nA question we often hear is “Why do I feel such freedom on stage\, but then lose that freedom when I get in front of a camera?” This workshop is designed to answer that very question!

SUMMARY:Voice and Speech
DESCRIPTION:This voice and speech training course helps actors release tension\, develop control over breath and articulation\, and use their voice with freedom and clarity. Through consistent practice and progressive exercises\, students learn vocal mechanics\, build a reliable warm-up routine\, and bring text to life with expressive\, authentic delivery. \n\nFocuses on releasing habitual tension to free the actor’s natural voice\nDevelops reliable breathing\, vocal\, and articulation techniques through consistent practice\nBuilds awareness of how breath\, voice\, and speech work together for expressive communication\nStrengthens clarity\, versatility\, and emotional range in vocal performance\nTeaches a comprehensive voice and speech warm-up routine\nExplores mechanics of vocal production through active exercises\nGuides students in bringing text to life vocally and connecting imagination to language\nEncourages patience\, repetition\, and discipline—similar to training a musical instrument or physical skill\n\nThe purpose of vocal training—an essential component of conservatory acting programs worldwide—is to release the actor’s habitual patterns of tension.

SUMMARY:Voice Over Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This is a five-class intensive designed to introduce the actor to this specialized\, expanding\, and seriously fun aspect of our craft. We will explore the creative process of reading copy and begin to learn to identify the demands and techniques of voice acting for commercials\, audiobooks\, video games\, and animation. \nStudents will record on their own using whatever technology and equipment they have available\, and we will examine and share knowledge about how to best optimize their resources at home. A microphone is not required\, but recording capabilities\, even on a smartphone\, are necessary for the class. \nWe will discuss the business nitty-gritty of voice-over: where the opportunities are\, demos\, internet audition platforms\, agencies\, and technology and equipment for self-recording. \nClasses will be held in person\, including one class where all students will record in a professional voice-over studio. You will leave that session with your recording!
