SUMMARY:Voice Over Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This is a five-class intensive designed to introduce the actor to this specialized\, expanding\, and seriously fun aspect of our craft. We will explore the creative process of reading copy and begin to learn to identify the demands and techniques of voice acting for commercials\, audiobooks\, video games\, and animation. \nStudents will record on their own using whatever technology and equipment they have available\, and we will examine and share knowledge about how to best optimize their resources at home. A microphone is not required\, but recording capabilities\, even on a smartphone\, are necessary for the class. \nWe will discuss the business nitty-gritty of voice-over: where the opportunities are\, demos\, internet audition platforms\, agencies\, and technology and equipment for self-recording. \nClasses will be held in person\, including one class where all students will record in a professional voice-over studio. You will leave that session with your recording!

SUMMARY:Voice and Speech
DESCRIPTION:This voice and speech training course helps actors release tension\, develop control over breath and articulation\, and use their voice with freedom and clarity. Through consistent practice and progressive exercises\, students learn vocal mechanics\, build a reliable warm-up routine\, and bring text to life with expressive\, authentic delivery. \n\nFocuses on releasing habitual tension to free the actor’s natural voice\nDevelops reliable breathing\, vocal\, and articulation techniques through consistent practice\nBuilds awareness of how breath\, voice\, and speech work together for expressive communication\nStrengthens clarity\, versatility\, and emotional range in vocal performance\nTeaches a comprehensive voice and speech warm-up routine\nExplores mechanics of vocal production through active exercises\nGuides students in bringing text to life vocally and connecting imagination to language\nEncourages patience\, repetition\, and discipline—similar to training a musical instrument or physical skill\n\nThe purpose of vocal training—an essential component of conservatory acting programs worldwide—is to release the actor’s habitual patterns of tension. When these tensions are freed\, the vocal instrument can fully express character through the actor’s imagination\, engaging the listener with language written by another yet spoken as our own. Without the ability to fully access and use the voice\, an actor cannot consistently meet the dynamic and creative demands of the industry. \nVoice and speech training is a technique that requires time to learn and integrate. Our everyday habits of breathing and speaking are deeply ingrained and highly sensitive to factors such as nerves and personal inhibitions. \nWith consistent practice\, vocal technique develops awareness and allows actors to use breath\, voice\, and articulation with reliability and freedom. Instead of being limited by habitual vocal patterns\, actors gain the ability to communicate a wide range of character choices with clarity and versatility. \nThis process is similar to building strength at the gym or learning to play a musical instrument—it requires patience\, repetition\, and discipline before the results can be fully realized and applied. Each session builds upon the last\, supporting students as they integrate technique into increasingly specific and expressive uses of voice\, body\, and speech. \nIn this course\, students will learn a comprehensive voice and speech warm-up\, develop a strong understanding of the mechanics of vocal production through active exercises\, and explore how to bring text to life vocally.

SUMMARY:New York City On-Camera Scene Study and Audition Intensive with Gregory Berger (Berg)
DESCRIPTION:In NYC\, this August 29th and 30th\, Berg Studios is excited to announce a 2-day On-Camera Scene Study and Audition Intensive with Gregory Berger (Berg)\, a former faculty member of The Yale School of Drama\, and private on-set coach to Lupita Nyong’o (Oscar Winner)\, Riz Ahmed (Oscar Winner)\, Winston Duke\, Aziz Ansari\, and many others. \nA question we often hear is “Why do I feel such freedom on stage\, but then lose that freedom when I get in front of a camera?” This workshop is designed to answer that very question! \nIn this two-day intensive\, Berg brings the same technique and insight he developed for his on-camera acting class at the Yale School of Drama. \nThe workshop begins with the first day of on-camera scene study\, followed by a day focused on translating that work into the audition process. It uniquely bridges the freedom and imagination of stage work with the rigor and constraints of self-tapes and live auditions—eliminating the divide between stage and screen. \nFor the first day\, actors will be assigned a film or television scene and a scene partner\, working on camera every day with full coverage (wide\, medium\, and close-up shots) as Berg coaches each rehearsal. \n\nDay 1: On-camera scene work with your partner.\nDay 2: You will bring in audition material and work on-camera with Berg.\n\nThis workshop challenges actors to expand their imagination and access their boldest\, most spontaneous\, and irreverent selves. The actors are pushed beyond safe or predictable choices toward creating fearless\, original\, and compelling auditions.

SUMMARY:Sunday Introductory Scene Study
DESCRIPTION:This introductory class explores the actor’s process from script analysis to role creation—using imagination to illuminate words written by someone else\, which I believe is at the heart of what we do as actors. \nI believe deeply in both technique and instinct\, in rigorous training as well as creativity and play. My goal is to help each student discover and strengthen their own unique responsiveness as an artist\, developing a deeper awareness of what they personally need to meet a challenge and do their best work. \nActing begins with imagination\, connection\, and presence—especially in relationship to your scene partner(s). Every actor works differently: one student may connect most strongly through visual imagery\, while another may unlock a scene through breathwork\, movement\, or a kinesthetic approach. Part of the work is building a rich toolbox of techniques and learning when and how to use them. \nI primarily work with scenes from plays because they offer actors a strong sense of narrative arc and are written specifically to serve the actor’s craft. This foundation also prepares students for the continuity and storytelling demands of filmed and edited work. \n  \n\n This Introductory class is an ongoing monthly subscription. Enrollment is open to students who have completed or are currently enrolled in our Foundation Series\, or who have received approval through the Berg Studios office. \nBy purchasing this ticket\, you acknowledge and agree that you are enrolling in an automatic recurring monthly subscription.

SUMMARY:Tuesday Introductory Scene Study
DESCRIPTION:Shawna Pardo’s Introductory class invites actors into a deeply embodied practice—one that asks them to move\, to radiate\, and to experience the imagination as a living force. The work is both physically engaging and psychologically rich\, guiding actors to discover how inner life and expression arise through the body. Her teaching is rooted in the classical traditions of Konstantin Stanislavski and Michael Chekhov. “At the heart of my teaching is the belief that imagination is the primary creative force in performance. Mind\, body\, and feeling are inseparable. In class\, we create the conditions for characters to unfold instinctively through physical action\, psychological awareness\, and imaginative freedom. \n  \n\n This Introductory class is an ongoing monthly subscription. Enrollment is open to students who have completed or are currently enrolled in our Foundation Series\, or who have received approval through the Berg Studios office. \nBy purchasing this ticket\, you acknowledge and agree that you are enrolling in an automatic recurring monthly subscription.\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n

This series is a prerequisite for training with Gregory Berger \nThe four classes of the series are: \nTechnique: This class provides a fundamental understanding of our approach to the work\, introducing familiar acting vocabulary through our distinct perspective on essentials like objectives and actions. Rather than stopping at intellectual understanding\, it moves technique into the body\, where spontaneous and imaginative behavior lives. Through this process\, you’ll be guided toward discovering your own process and developing a technique that is truly your own. \n\nProvides a fundamental understanding of our approach to the work\nIntroduces familiar acting vocabulary through our distinct perspective on essentials like objectives and actions\nMoves technique beyond intellectual understanding and into the body\, where spontaneous and imaginative behavior lives\nGuides you toward discovering your own process and developing a technique that is truly your own.\n\nScript Analysis: This class systematically breaks down a play or screenplay to understand the writer’s intent\, themes\, and structure — moving beyond purely academic analysis to uncover what lives beneath the words.
\nFocuses on releasing habitual tension to free the actor’s natural voice\nDevelops reliable breathing\, vocal\, and articulation techniques through consistent practice\nBuilds awareness of how breath\, voice\, and speech work together for expressive communication\nStrengthens clarity\, versatility\, and emotional range in vocal performance\nTeaches a comprehensive voice and speech warm-up routine\nExplores mechanics of vocal production through active exercises\nGuides students in bringing text to life vocally and connecting imagination to language\nEncourages patience\, repetition\, and discipline—similar to training a musical instrument or physical skill \nThe purpose of vocal training—an essential component of conservatory acting programs worldwide—is to release the actor’s habitual patterns of tension.
