SUMMARY:Sunday Introductory Scene Study
DESCRIPTION:This introductory class explores the actor’s process from script analysis to role creation—using imagination to illuminate words written by someone else\, which I believe is at the heart of what we do as actors. \nI believe deeply in both technique and instinct\, in rigorous training as well as creativity and play. My goal is to help each student discover and strengthen their own unique responsiveness as an artist\, developing a deeper awareness of what they personally need to meet a challenge and do their best work. \nActing begins with imagination\, connection\, and presence—especially in relationship to your scene partner(s). Every actor works differently: one student may connect most strongly through visual imagery\, while another may unlock a scene through breathwork\, movement\, or a kinesthetic approach. Part of the work is building a rich toolbox of techniques and learning when and how to use them. \nI primarily work with scenes from plays because they offer actors a strong sense of narrative arc and are written specifically to serve the actor’s craft. This foundation also prepares students for the continuity and storytelling demands of filmed and edited work. \n  \n\n					This Introductory class is an ongoing monthly subscription. Enrollment is open to students who have completed or are currently enrolled in our Foundation Series\, or who have received approval through the Berg Studios office. \nBy purchasing this ticket\, you acknowledge and agree that you are enrolling in an automatic recurring monthly subscription.

Rather than stopping at intellectual understanding\, it moves technique into the body\, where spontaneous and imaginative behavior lives. DESCRIPTION:When it comes to characters with an accent or dialect\, do you usually just wing it\, or even pass up the opportunity? What if you were able to identify a few key elements that would unlock your ability to reliably learn a wide variety of accents? \nIn this workshop\, we will break down the technique of learning an accent or dialect. You will learn how to research an accent\, focusing on one accent in particular\, and develop a set of tools to apply to any accent or dialect as you learn. You will also have the opportunity to observe the other students’ work on many different accents. You’ll get to experience how accent and dialect work add to the specificity of character and scene work as you use your new accent with text. \nThis is a fantastic opportunity to develop an essential skill that you will use over and over again as an actor. Through consistent practice and progressive exercises\, students learn vocal mechanics\, build a reliable warm-up routine\, and bring text to life with expressive\, authentic delivery. \nFocuses on releasing habitual tension to free the actor’s natural voice\nDevelops reliable breathing\, vocal\, and articulation techniques through consistent practice\nBuilds awareness of how breath\, voice\, and speech work together for expressive communication\nStrengthens clarity\, versatility\, and emotional range in vocal performance\nTeaches a comprehensive voice and speech warm-up routine\nExplores mechanics of vocal production through active exercises\nGuides students in bringing text to life vocally and connecting imagination to language\nEncourages patience\, repetition\, and discipline—similar to training a musical instrument or physical skill \nThe purpose of vocal training—an essential component of conservatory acting programs worldwide—is to release the actor’s habitual patterns of tension. When these tensions are freed\, the vocal instrument can fully express character through the actor’s imagination\, engaging the listener with language written by another yet spoken as our own. Without the ability to fully access and use the voice\, an actor cannot consistently meet the dynamic and creative demands of the industry. \nVoice and speech training is a technique that requires time to learn and integrate. Our everyday habits of breathing and speaking are deeply ingrained and highly sensitive to factors such as nerves and personal inhibitions. \nWith consistent practice\, vocal technique develops awareness and allows actors to use breath\, voice\, and articulation with reliability and freedom. Instead of being limited by habitual vocal patterns\, actors gain the ability to communicate a wide range of character choices with clarity and versatility. \nThis process is similar to building strength at the gym or learning to play a musical instrument—it requires patience\, repetition\, and discipline before the results can be fully realized and applied. Each session builds upon the last\, supporting students as they integrate technique into increasingly specific and expressive uses of voice\, body\, and speech. \nIn this course\, students will learn a comprehensive voice and speech warm-up\, develop a strong understanding of the mechanics of vocal production through active exercises\, and explore how to bring text to life vocally.
