SUMMARY:Tuesday Introductory Scene Study
DESCRIPTION:Shawna Pardo’s Introductory class invites actors into a deeply embodied practice—one that asks them to move\, to radiate\, and to experience the imagination as a living force. The work is both physically engaging and psychologically rich\, guiding actors to discover how inner life and expression arise through the body. Her teaching is rooted in the classical traditions of Konstantin Stanislavski and Michael Chekhov. “At the heart of my teaching is the belief that imagination is the primary creative force in performance. Mind\, body\, and feeling are inseparable. In class\, we create the conditions for characters to unfold instinctively through physical action\, psychological awareness\, and imaginative freedom. \nPlease note this is an ongoing subscription-based class. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Sunday Introductory Scene Study
DESCRIPTION:This introductory class explores the actor’s process from script analysis to role creation—using imagination to illuminate words written by someone else\, which I believe is at the heart of what we do as actors. \nI believe deeply in both technique and instinct\, in rigorous training as well as creativity and play. My goal is to help each student discover and strengthen their own unique responsiveness as an artist\, developing a deeper awareness of what they personally need to meet a challenge and do their best work. \nActing begins with imagination\, connection\, and presence—especially in relationship to your scene partner(s). Every actor works differently: one student may connect most strongly through visual imagery\, while another may unlock a scene through breathwork\, movement\, or a kinesthetic approach. Part of the work is building a rich toolbox of techniques and learning when and how to use them. \nI primarily work with scenes from plays because they offer actors a strong sense of narrative arc and are written specifically to serve the actor’s craft. This foundation also prepares students for the continuity and storytelling demands of filmed and edited work. \nPlease note this is an ongoing subscription-based class.

SUMMARY:Alexander Technique with Kristof Konrad
DESCRIPTION:The study of the Alexander Technique is required at the finest drama conservatories around the world\, including the Yale School of Drama\, The Juilliard School\, ACT\, the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art\, and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. \nThe Alexander technique is a gentle approach that aims to re-educate the mind and the body through a series of movements so the body uses muscles more efficiently. Actors trained in the Alexander Technique consistently feel more confident and free — physically\, vocally\, and creatively — to do their best work. The physical and imaginative freedom that can be discovered through the Alexander work can be a vital part of the actor’s craft. \nAll communication starts with the body. It is the point of origin for the voice\, emotional life\, and physical activity. It also creates and communicates meaning to the audience – our physical actions and responses are interpreted by the onlooker –and performers need to be in charge of this process. \nIn this workshop\, actors develop an awareness of their psychophysical habits that cause tension and interfere with performance. By using principles of the Alexander Technique you will deepen the connections between your body\, breath\, and voice. Movement inspires this dynamic relationship by integrating all the parts of the actor’s instrument. \nCOURSE CONTENT: \n\nConnecting to the body through awareness with the Alexander Technique (getting out of your head)\nFreeing impulse and response patterns\nFinding the breath and rhythm of the character\nRecognizing the force of habit\nImproving breath coordination and vocal quality\nImproving our movement by learning to organize body relationships\nUnderstanding Means and Ends\nMaking clear choices of intention\nInfusing direction in our thinking and movement\nApplying the Alexander Technique to monologues\, sonnets\, songs\, and scenes\nLearning to develop characters physically (if I believe your body\, I’ll believe your character

SUMMARY:The Actor's Imagination on Film: On Camera Scene Study Intensive
DESCRIPTION:In this intensive\, actors will be assigned a scene and scene partner and will work on camera with full coverage\, filmed by a camera operator while Berg coaches each performance. \nBerg will guide you through the practical application of on-camera acting and audition technique\, addressing both the technical and artistic demands of working in front of the lens. The work is designed to release the actor’s imagination through technique\, cultivating authentic\, spontaneous behavior on camera. This approach empowers actors to separate themselves from the pack—revealing their private selves and making bold\, truthful creative choices. \nDrawing from the same techniques and experience he brought to his on-camera acting course at The Yale School of Drama\, Berg will help you access your own powerful imagination and make it palpable\, visceral\, and fully transferable to the rigors and constraints of film and television. \nThroughout the intensive\, actors will be filmed during each session and will review their work with Berg\, gaining clear\, actionable insight into their on-camera presence and performance.

SUMMARY:Yat Malmgren Beginners Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This June\, we are thrilled to welcome back former London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) instructor James Kemp for beginner/advanced workshops of Yat Malmgren movement psychology! \nAt the heart of the work is the concept that we think with our bodies. Our bodies are revelatory of our inner workings\, our psyche\, thoughts\, and feelings. Therefore\, if we could learn to harness and manifest our inner sensations and express them through our bodies\, we would be able to share every inner desire\, want\, thought\, or emotion with a watching audience. And in turn that audience would be able to ‘read’ our thoughts\, and character\, and be thoroughly engaged in our dramatic lives. \nBy the end of the presentation\, you will be looking at the world through new eyes\, being able to ‘read’ the movements of those around you for meaning and to create physically expressive characterizations that both excite the imagination and serve the writers’ intentions.

SUMMARY:Yat Malmgren Advanced Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Prerequisites: June’s Beginner’s workshop at Berg Studios\, attendance of a previous Yat Workshop at Berg Studios\, or equivalent training from another institution \nIn this course\, you will begin to apply the theory of the work practically. You will create ‘Near Exercises’\, structured improvisations exploring character creation\, tempo/rhythm\, and dramatic composition. You will apply the theory onto text. You are invited to use language from Shakespeare to modern drama or even contemporary film. You are invited to use pieces that you already know that you would like to explore through the additional lens of this work\, or you can work on new text. Both the Near Exercises and text work will give you the chance to explore\, enhance\, and embed the theory into your craft and practice with detailed feedback. You will apply all the work from the Beginners workshop to a full ‘realistic’ text.

SUMMARY:Voice Over Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This is a five-class intensive designed to introduce the actor to this specialized\, expanding\, and seriously fun aspect of our craft. We will explore the creative process of reading copy and begin to learn to identify the demands and techniques of voice acting for commercials\, audiobooks\, video games\, and animation. \nStudents will record on their own using whatever technology and equipment they have available\, and we will examine and share knowledge about how to best optimize their resources at home. A microphone is not required\, but recording capabilities\, even on a smartphone\, are necessary for the class. \nWe will discuss the business nitty-gritty of voice-over: where the opportunities are\, demos\, internet audition platforms\, agencies\, and technology and equipment for self-recording. \nClasses will be held in person\, including one class where all students will record in a professional voice-over studio. You will leave that session with your recording!
