What is your technique?
Our studio is dedicated to cultivating the actor’s skillset through imaginative and behavioral work. Students strive for authenticity and bold originality by building a repeatable technique.
Our approach is twofold: first, providing the actor with tools to make choices from the text, and then leading them to find their own spontaneous behavior. In doing so, the actor’s task shifts from self-consciously asking “What do I look like?” to examining “What do I see?” We believe that this foundation is applicable to film, television, and stage, across all genres and media.
The Berg Studios faculty is primarily composed of graduates of The Yale School of Drama and The Juilliard School. Our students and clients are recognized for an exceptional volume of series regular bookings and sustained professional success.

We offer ongoing classes led by our core teaching staff of working professionals, as well as curated workshops taught by guest faculty from around the world.
Is this training for beginners or experienced actors?
You are welcome in our studio at any stage of your journey. Our four-class Foundation Series offers an inspired entry point for new actors and a rich return to fundamentals for those with prior training and experience. Our instructors teach with rigor and depth, meeting you precisely where you are while challenging you to grow. All we ask is that you arrive with curiosity, a willingness to explore, and the courage to dive deeply into your imagination. Together, we will find the class that’s right for you!
Do you focus on theater or film?
As an LA-based acting studio, our work naturally centers on film, and our on-camera classes and workshops reflect that focus. That said, we do not separate “film acting” from “theatrical acting.” While the mechanics of a film set differ from the stage, the underlying technique remains the same.
This philosophy is part of why British actors have made such a profound impact on the American market. Their training begins with film work alongside rigorous study of text, voice, and classical material— Shakespeare included—from the very first year. We believe this union of cinematic technique and deep artistic discipline represents the gold standard in actor training, and it is the model we strive to recreate in our studio.
How much time commitment is expected?
While we understand that life occasionally intervenes, we do expect consistent attendance in all classes for which you are enrolled, as well as a commitment to rehearsing with your scene partners outside of class time. If you need to miss a class, please inform the office, your class manager, and, of course, your scene partner. Communication is key!
Can I make up a missed class?
Our ongoing classes operate on a month-to-month basis, and as such, we are unable to offer make-up classes for absences.
That said, we warmly encourage all currently enrolled students to audit any of our scene study classes as a way to stay engaged and deepen their work, excluding Berg’s Tuesday class. If you wish to audit Berg’s Monday or Wednesday class, simply email the office on the day you plan to attend. For all other instructors’ classes, you are welcome to just show up.
Auditing is a wonderful way to supplement your training, reconnect after a missed class, and experience the breadth of work happening in the studio. You are welcome here anytime!
Can I skip the audit and join an ongoing class?
While attending our free audit presentation is the best way to gain an in-depth understanding of our artistic approach (and enjoy exclusive attendee discounts), you’re also welcome to contact the office directly. We’re happy to help you find the class that’s the perfect fit for you.
What material do you work on at the studio?
Pretty much anything that lights you up and keeps you on your toes. We dive into film, television, and theatre—everything from contemporary scripts to Shakespeare. Got something you’ve been itching to write yourself? Bring it in! Original material is not just welcome, it’s encouraged.
Do you assign scenes?
We do not assign scenes here at the studio. We feel it is part of your artistic responsibility for you and your scene partner to find material that excites and challenges you. We do give you access to our scene database of film and TV scenes, as well as a long list of suggested plays. Your instructor will be happy to discuss material with you and will have suggestions from time to time.
Do you have classes in New York City?
Berg frequently travels to New York to hold classes and workshops.

How am I placed in a class?
When you attend our free audit presentation, Berg will review your resume and recommend which instructor’s class he feels is the best place for you to begin training. This recommendation is based primarily on your previous training, though extensive professional credits are also taken into consideration. Your schedule and our availability will, of course, factor into final placement.
If you’re unable to attend the audit, you may email us your headshot and resume, and we’ll follow up with a call to discuss the class that’s the best fit for you.
How does one advance in the studio
We don’t believe there are arbitrary timelines for learning the craft of acting. After you begin your training with us, you and your instructor will have ongoing conversations about when the time is right to advance, based on your work and how you are applying the techniques learned in the Foundation Series.
Will I work every week?
Yes, in the other instructors' classes, you are guaranteed to work every week. In Berg classes, you will work approximately every other week.
How many students are in each class?
While Berg’s classes are larger in number, all other scene study classes are either capped at 17 for a three-hour class or 24 for a four-hour class.
Do you offer Military/Senior discounts?
Yes! We are happy to offer a 10% discount to active military, veterans, and senior citizens.
Do you offer financial help?
We get it—times are tough, and we want to make attending classes as accessible as possible. When applicable, we offer payment plans and deposit options to help spread out costs. Students enrolling in multiple classes can take advantage of discounted bundle pricing, as well as bulk payment options that lower your overall cost the longer you commit. As a studio student, you’ll also receive discounts on additional classes and workshops.
Do you have parking?
While there is ample street parking here on Casitas Ave, just south of the studio, are two very large parking lots where you may park for free and for as long as you need. Just look for green circle-shaped signs that say P/1 and P/2
