Led by Gregory Berger (Berg) and faculty, this 3-week intensive introduces the core approach used throughout Berg Studios.
It builds a strong technical foundation while connecting that work to the demands of film and television. Actors train in script analysis, language, imagery, and performance, learning to translate technique into work that feels active, embodied, and alive.
The process pushes actors out of their heads and into their bodies—integrating movement, rhythm, and creative exploration while still honoring the text—so that, over time, their work becomes imaginative, dynamic, and fully their own.
Class 1: Technique
Provides a fundamental understanding of the Berg Studios approach, introducing familiar acting vocabulary (like objectives and actions) through their distinct perspective. Rather than stopping at intellectual understanding, it moves technique into the body—where spontaneous and imaginative behavior lives—guiding you toward discovering your own process and a technique that’s truly your own.
Class 2: Script Analysis
Systematically breaks down a play or screenplay to understand the writer’s intent, themes, and structure. It moves beyond purely academic analysis to uncover what lives beneath the words, focusing on illuminating the script rather than merely illustrating it, and transforming textual information into compelling, imaginative behavior.
Class 3: Sense Stress
A deep exploration of a script’s language for imagery, understanding, and creativity. Includes practical demonstrations of how to mark up your script to create a personal “road map” through the language, a dive into different forms of speech every actor should know, and group exercises to fully engage with the words, sounds, and imagery of the script.
Classes 4–5: Scene Study with Gregory Berger
Integrates in-person scene study techniques with on-camera work, using Zoom as a performance “frame.” Trains foundational tools—language, gesture, beat work, and script analysis—and techniques for turning text into clear, purposeful action. Emphasizes balancing spontaneity with structure, developing imaginative and fully realized characters, and building confidence and authenticity for film and TV settings, all grounded in strong technique and personal choices.
Class 6: On-Camera Audition Technique
Helps actors gain confidence and authenticity on film and TV sets by connecting craft to the camera through strong technique and imaginative choices, using an audition structure. Offers practical, affordable training that builds skill, experience, and truthfulness in on-screen performance and auditions—emphasizing honest, imaginative choices over tricks or shortcuts, and grounding everything in the authentic use of self.
